We moved to Atlanta in 1944 when I was 9 years old. I lived there for 5 years before going to Washington as a
Page in the House of Representatives. I returned in 1953 to finish college and work in Atlanta until I went to Peru in 1967,
a total of 19 years.
Atlanta is the capital and largest city in the state of Georgia and is
the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area home of over five million people, the 9th largest in
the US. It is county seat of Fulton County.
Looking back over 50 years, it is hard to believe that I was once the
State Senator whose district included downtown Atlanta during 1963-67.
Atlanta
began as a settlement located at the intersection of two railroad lines, and it was incorporated in 1845. Today, the city
is major business city and the primary transportation hub of the Southeastern United States
